Getting involved
DLA Piper’s core values speak clearly about giving something back to our local communities as people and as professionals. For all of us, getting involved in community projects where we live and work is a great way to put our working lives into context and share our skills and resources on a practical level.
Working together outside the confines of the office helps nurture a team spirit and reinforces shared values. We gain valuable people skills as well as leadership, project management and planning skills. Above all, our people find huge satisfaction in helping their local communities.
Things we learn on a community project can help us spot needs. In the UK, our work with The Prince’s Trust helps us see issues that we would otherwise miss and collaborate with clients we have never worked with before. Our food bank efforts in US cities informed our partnership with the Global FoodBanking Network. In Europe, our office in the Slovak Republic joined in a two-day initiative that helped forge bonds with businesses throughout Bratislava. Our partnership in Paris in support of the skills agenda provides work experience to young people and enabled us to partner with national and international businesses and to address this educational need.
