Heart of the Community
Ethnic business and cultural communities are critical to the success of immigrant communities in California, providing vital support to those who are making new lives in the United States. In 2006, DLA Piper represented the Korean Community Center of East Bay in a dispute about the Koryo Village Center in Oakland.
The Korean Community Center has owned and operated the Koryo Village for more than 20 years. The Center serves as a small business incubator for the immigrant community, while also acting as a key resource in an economically depressed area. A dispute around a fraudulent grant deed endangered the Center’s financing and its lease. A DLA Piper team of litigation and real estate lawyers helped settle the case before trial, resolving all issues and releasing much-needed funds.
