Art is a vocation; DLA Piper represents artists referred to us through such groups as the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts (WALA). Our intellectual property lawyers help artists protect their creations, while corporate lawyers advise on contracts. We also provide legal advice to museums on such matters as relocation, loaning or borrowing pieces from other institutions, financing and tax issues.
When a funding crisis threatened WALA’s services, DLA Piper stepped in to fill the void, reviving WALA’s monthly clinics, where artists can meet with a lawyer and receive advice. Most issues can be resolved during a one-hour meeting.
