Prize-winning Partnership
It has been four years since DLA Piper in Chicago, along with our client, Accenture, adopted Barry Elementary School on Chicago’s North Side, aiming to improve educational outcomes and raise expectations among students and their parents. For the majority of the students at Barry School, English is a second language.
In our partnership with Barry School, we foster literacy through Reading Nights and an understanding of the link between education and work through Career Fairs. We helped the school obtain a grant from the Beaumont Foundation, providing the library with laptops. Each spring, our people help the students research and think about their career choices. Our law librarians help the school’s library and run a book drive that sends every child home with a new book. DLA Piper lawyers also teach 4th, 5th and 6th graders the Constitutional Rights Foundation’s Lawyers in the Classroom curriculum, giving them a grounding in the basics of the United States Constitution.
