Roots of Change

The Green Belt Movement, founded in 2004 by Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai, is a community empowerment and development organization that uses tree planting as its focal point. Led by and made up largely of women, the Green Belt Movement emphasizes vital links among democracy, the environment and peace.

DLA Piper lawyers serve as the Green Belt Movement’s general counsel, assisting it with a variety of legal needs. We have advised on employment matters, reviewed the organization’s benefits plan, provided guidance and oversight in contractual transactions and assisted with policy development initiatives both in the US and internationally.
