Supporting fairness
DLA Piper believes in fairness for everyone and is a strong supporter of the Calala Foundation, the Spanish branch of the Central America Fund for Women (CAWF). CAWF provides aid and educational programmes for women across all of Central America. Its goal is to help these women help each other and promote and enjoy the same rights and opportunities as men.
CAWF recognised that it was necessary to have a presence in Europe, and Spain in particular where many women from Central America have emigrated and face continuing challenges and obstacles. However, setting up a Foundation in Spain is not an easy task and we offered our legal skills free of charge to overcome sensitive regulatory, civil and tax law issues. Despite the many difficulties, Calala is now a fully operational entity and helping women in Spain to achieve their potential.
